Our Five Favorite Creative Ways To Save Money For Travel

  1. Pay for everything with cash.

I know lots of regular monthly bills come out automatically from bank accounts any more. Leave that money alone and let it continue to come out of your account. But, for irregular monthly expenses like gas, groceries, fun money, hair cuts, shopping, etc, start using cash. Budget for each item or category and be sure to have enough cash to cover it when you go to purchase. This is a great way to create a budget, stick to it, and hopefully have some money left over at the end of the month for your Trip Savings Account!

  2. Start a coin jar.

I know that sounds kind of like a “duh” moment, but now that you are using cash so often, surely you have plenty of coins sitting around, right? Start putting every single coin you find or receive into a jar. When the jar is full, take it to your bank and deposit it into your Trip Savings Account. You will be amazed how much money you can save with just coins!

  3. Start saving your dollar bills
Either in the same jar as the coins, or in their own envelope tucked away from impulse buyers, start saving all your dollar bills. Once a month take the envelope to the bank for deposit!
  4. Sell something!
Do you have books lying around that you don’t read? Old toys from your childhood? Even an extra set of dishes that’s been taking up room in the basement for years? Get all of that stuff together and start selling it! There are tons of sites and apps that can help you get your stuff sold for fair prices and get some extra money in your pocket!
  5. Download a savings app – or two!
There are several savings apps you can download right to your phone to help you save money every time you shop. Ebates is for online purchases, Ibotta helps save at the store, and even Walmart has a cash back rewards app now! They are very user friendly and often automatic, and if you are going to be shopping anyway why not get some travel cash while you’re at it?

Hopefully you found some new ideas for saving, and can get stared today! Where will your next adventure take you?
